Answers
1. Am I ready for retirement living? (Return to List of Questions)
Only if you are ready for an active retirement lifestyle among people who share common interests and activities. If you are beginning to experience some concern about your later retirement years, Westhills' secure setting with an abundance of friendly residents and staff should interest you. Too many people put off the decision to take advantage of this full-service lifestyle until its too late. Once open, most retirement communities are quickly filled and develop long waiting lists. Don't let a late decision make you miss out on this wonderful opportunity.

2. Can I afford to live at Westhills Village? (Return to List of Questions)
Better stated - you can't afford NOT to live at Westhills Village. When most people consider what they are spending to keep up their home, pay taxes, and the many other "home owner" expenses, it becomes quite clear that Westhills Village is a real bargain in today's inflated economy. Besides, many of the services provided at Westhills are not available to you in your home at any price. That's worth a lot!

3. Do I have to turn over all of my assets to Westhills Village? (Return to List of Questions)
No, we do require a financial statement, but you continue to be in charge of your own assets. We do this to make sure that everyone who comes into Westhills Village has the financial stability to maintain the same lifestyle to which they are accustomed.

4. How much does it cost? (Return to List of Questions)
Westhills Village is all about choices. The first option is a life care contract. The cost of the contract depends on the size of the apartment that you desire. There are two contracts from which to choose (the Original Plan and the Return on Investment). The resident puts a 5% deposit down when they fill out the application and the remainder of the contract is paid upon move-in. The deposit is 100% refundable up until the time you move in. There is also a monthly service fee which covers one meal per day in the Dining Room, housekeeping every other week, laundry of your flat linens every week, maintenance of the apartment, all utilities except telephone, cable TV, and use of the whole Village. Part of the amount of the contract cost becomes a credit against your bill when you are no longer able to live in your apartment and need either assisted living or health care on a permanent basis. This credit amount never runs out. There is also a lease option on studio and one bedroom apartments. With the lease option, you put down a $1,000 security deposit and then pay a monthly service fee which covers the same as listed above. There is an incentive if you choose to switch from a lease to a contract within the first year of living at Westhills Village.

5. I'm interested in Westhills Village. What do I do now? (Return to List of Questions)
You will need to complete and submit an application including a confidential financial statement along with a check for your 5% deposit. Remember, your deposit is completely refundable if you change your mind. Once the application is approved and 90 days prior to moving into Westhills Village, you will need to have your physician sign a form stating that you are capable of independent living. For any questions and to receive an application, please contact the Marketing Department at (605) 342-0255 ext. 205.

6. What are the criteria for entering Westhills Village? (Return to List of Questions)
The applicant must be at least 62 years of age and their own personal physician must certify in writing that they are capable of independent living (the applicant must be in reasonably good health and be able to function safely in an apartment setting).

7. What if I need Health Care services? (Return to List of Questions)
As a resident of Westhills Village, you will be given priority for temporary or long-term admission to the Health Care facility.

8. What is a Retirement Community? (Return to List of Questions)
A retirement community lifestyle provides the active retiree with an affordable, spacious private living unit along with other facilities and access to services to assure each resident that his/her needs will be met. The well planned retirement community includes a wide variety of social and recreational opportunities so each person can pursue his/her own interests in a positive setting that offers convenience, variety, security and companionship.

9. When is the time for me to start thinking about Westhills Village? (Return to List of Questions)
It is best to begin thinking of Westhills Village while you are still very active, independent and able to come and go as you please. The earlier you come into Westhills Village, the longer you are able to take advantage of and enjoy all of the benefits of living in a retirement community setting. Many of our residents enjoy traveling and a wide variety of community activities including clubs and civic organizations, artistic and cultural activities such as concerts, symphonies, plays, sporting events and much more.

10. Who lives at Westhills Village? (Return to List of Questions)
People like you. People who have worked hard all their lives. People who have planned for their retirement years and want the very best out of them. A typical resident wishes to be set free from the worry of maintaining a home; to be set free from the loneliness that can come from living alone; to be set free from the fear of an accident or health problem that cannot receive prompt and appropriate attention. Westhills Village offers the opportunity for planned retirement living that allows a retiree to enjoy a secure and fulfilling retirement.
